E-commerce shopping baskets or "carts" as they are sometimes know are complex CGI scripts that keep track of products that the customer wishes to buy by placing them in a temporary order file, in much the same way as dropping them into a shopping basket. This is done using an "Add to Cart" facility. When the customer is ready to pay they then proceed to "Checkout". Any additional postage costs are also calculated at this stage. Once the order is confirmed they are directed to a payment gateway such as PayPal - Worldpay ect, and can use their credit card to purchase the items. The paid order is then sent to you so it can then be dispatched.
